Hyderabad: At Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended two women travellers from Uganda and Zambia and recovered 12 kilogrammes of heroin worth Rs 78 crore from their checked-in luggage.

According to reports, the heroin was meant to be transferred to their handlers in north India. The women were apprehended by DRI authorities based on specific intelligence. When a Ugandan woman traveller arrived at RGIA on Saturday to reclaim her missing luggage, the DRI personnel apprehended her.

She arrived in Hyderabad a few days ago after travelling from Zimbabwe via Johannesburg and Doha. The luggage was searched, and concealment was discovered in the sides. The powder was found, and it was discovered to be heroin.

Officers of the DRI apprehended a Zambian female traveller flying from Zambia through Johannesburg and Doha in the early hours of Sunday. A thorough search of her luggage yielded the discovery of off-white powder hidden behind the pipe rolls she had taken with her.

Officials stated that the substance tested positive for heroin. The women were detained under the terms of the NDPS Act 1985, and DRI agents recovered heroin from them.

Officials claim that heroin, an opioid derivative, is very addictive. People use heroin by injecting, snorting, or smoking it. People who use heroin on a regular basis acquire a tolerance to the drug, requiring greater and/or more frequent dosages to get the desired effects.
