GHMC Has No Containment Zones But Only COVID Hotspots

19 Apr, 2021 08:54 IST|Sakshi Post

The new coronavirus strain has turned airborne and the infection is spreading like wildfire in Telangana. According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, there are no longer any containment zones in Hyderabad, only hotspots.

The government of Telangana had adopted strict methods to contain the spread of coronavirus last year but this year, the strategy is completely different.

The GHMC officials said that they are identifying hot spots - localities with high population density, such as gated communities and slums. They further added that they aren’t declaring any area as a containment zone. But they are urging locals to follow physical distancing norms and restrict movement in and out of such hotspots.

Dr. Srujana, Deputy Director of Medical Health Office (DMHO) for Serilingampally circle said that "Actual containment zone is not there, but in some places, we are restricting movement by giving instructions to people to stay at home."

According to the reports, coronavirus was transmitting rapidly where it is likely to spread fast in closed environments like homes where it could transmit to all the family members within hours if one gets infected. Over the last four weeks, Telangana has witnessed more cases and a similar situation is going to continue for another 4 to 6 weeks.

As the number of cases are growing in Hyderabad, intensive sanitization drive by the spraying of Sodium Hypochlorite at public places started in the city on Sunday. The drive is being taken up by the Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of Directorate of Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM).
