Radhika Apte's Explosive Comments on Tollywood Goes Viral

17 Feb, 2024 17:23 IST|Sakshi Post

After her divisive comments regarding the Telugu film industry resurfaced, Bollywood actress Radhika Apte found herself at the centre of a social media storm. During an old interview with Rajeev Masand, Apte opened up about the difficulties she faced in Tollywood, calling it "patriarchal" and "male-dominated." At present this interview and Apte’s comments are going viral in social media.

Apte's statement, "The one industry I've struggled the most with is Telugu," has reignited discussions about the treatment of women in the film industry. She cited examples of marginalisation of women and prioritisation to the male actors.

The resurfacing of Apte's comments has prompted diverse reactions from social media users. Some have praised her for bringing attention to significant issues of gender inequality, while others have criticised her for using a broad brush to describe the entire industry.

Actress Radhika had only a few Tollywood films prior to this, including "Legend," "Rakta Charitra," "Lion," and a few others. With her performance in the film "Kabali," starring Super Star Rajinikanth, Apte gained widespread recognition in India.

Many contend that generalising based on isolated incidents could be unfair and that Apte's personal experiences might not accurately represent the reality of the entire industry. They highlight the necessity of dealing with individual cases of discrimination as opposed to demonising the sector as a whole.
