How One Film Derailed Ileana's Career in the South

Ileana D'Cruz Latest Interview

In a recent interview, renowned actress Ileana D'Cruz opened up about receiving fewer offers from the South Indian film industry after her Bollywood debut. The actress, currently appearing in 'Do Aur Do Pyaar', clarified a common misconception that contributed to this decline.

According to Ileana, the offers from the South film industry started decreasing after her appearance in the 2012 hit film 'Barfi', starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. She elaborated that as a result, she stopped receiving offers from the South. "The offers kind of just dwindled away. I didn't really receive many offers at all," she said, adding that she became more selective about the work she wanted to do after moving to Bollywood.

When asked if she feels she has not received her due in the industry, Ileana mentioned, "If I'm being completely honest, no, I don't feel like I've received my due. I definitely feel that much of the work I've done has gone unnoticed. And I don't know why."

The actress, who had previously made her debut in Telugu and Tamil films, believes people misunderstood her intentions when she took on the Hindi project 'Barfi'. "It wasn't meant to be a shift," Ileana explained. "I did 'Barfi' because I genuinely loved the story. It was an unusual film, and I didn't see myself doing anything like that again. It was a one-off, and it would have been stupid to give it up."

However, Ileana feels that when she signed up for 'Barfi', a misconception arose that she was shifting her focus to Bollywood and would no longer be interested in doing South Indian films. "It wasn't like, 'Oh, now I am moving my base to Bollywood, and I am never going to do a South Indian film again,'" she clarified.

After taking a break from acting, Ileana made her comeback with the recently released film 'Do Aur Do Pyaar', where she shared the screen with acclaimed actors Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
