All schools, colleges, and technical institutes in Darjeeling, West Bengal, will be closed between October 8 to 10, 2025, because of heavy rain and landslides, and authorities have announced that these three days will be declared holidays for students and teachers.
The official announcement issued by the Education Department establishes that the closings are to safeguard the lives of students, teachers, and staff due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The order comes after torrential rains and landslides on October 4 and 5 caused severe disconnection and transport in the areas under the Gorakhaland Territorial Administration.
According to the notification, all institutions — government, government-aided, private schools, SSKs, MSKs, and colleges, will be on holiday from October 8 to 10, 2025. Regular schooling is to begin again on October 13, 2025.
Authorities have instructed students, parents, and teachers to remain safe and not undertake travel along affected areas until things go back to normal. This holiday notice clearly indicates the commitment of the administration towards ensuring the well-being and safety of the education community during extreme weather conditions.
The holidays offer a short break in learning activities so that families and learners are safe while the area is recovering from the heavy rains and landslides.
