There is no doubt in saying that the Indian Premier League (IPL) makes new heroes overnight and also can revitalize certain players' careers, and yesterday, it was Yuzvendra Chahal's turn. The Punjab Kings' star, who is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, managed to take 4 wickets at just an economy of 7. Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer were skeptical before the match about taking Chahal into the team but trusted him to deliver, and he delivered big time.
Punjab Kings were on the verge of losing the match after scoring a meager 111 in the first innings. At the end of the 10th over in KKR's chase, the chances of Punjab winning the match were just 2 percent. It was after this that the contest had completely changed.
Chahal took the wicket of KKR captain Rahane. Even though Ajinkya should have challenged the umpire's decision, Chahal was already exerting pressure on Rahane to score runs. The fall of Rahane's wicket signaled collapse for KKR as they lost 5 wickets for a total of just six runs and never recovered. Chahal managed to take four of them and helped Punjab notch up a memorable win at home.
There was elation all around as Punjab players rushed to celebrate what the team managed to pull off. It's also a reminder for the tournament organizers to consider making bowler-friendly pitches. As much as fans enjoy the high-scoring run chases, it's always the low-scoring thrillers that give a fresh boost to a tournament.
During the celebrations, Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta was also overjoyed as she rushed to the ground to meet all the players and the coaching staff. Hero Yuzvendra Chahal was also one of the players she met, thanks to his heroics, and both shared a warm embrace.
Preity was beaming with joy as she met Chahal. At the mega auction, Punjab risked all and purchased Chahal for a whopping Rs.18 crores, and Preity Zinta was overjoyed to see her trust in Chahal finally paying off.
Preity Zinta has every reason to be happy, her lions have come out of the jaws of defeat and won the match today
