Banks across Tripura are closed today, Tuesday, August 19, to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared the occasion a regional holiday, applicable only within the state.
Maharaja Bir Bikram, born on August 19, 1908, is widely credited with laying the foundation for Tripura’s modern infrastructure, educational institutions, and administrative reforms. His legacy continues to hold cultural and historical importance in the state.
While customers in Tripura will not have access to over-the-counter services such as cheque clearance or demand draft issuance, they can continue banking through digital platforms including internet banking, mobile apps, UPI, and ATMs.
Elsewhere in India, all public and private sector banks are operating as usual.
