Tensions are running high within the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as disgruntled leaders and members rebel against the party's candidate selections. Election strategist Prashant Kishor(PK), brought in by party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu to quell the dissent, is facing stiff resistance from the rebels.

Once seen as a TDP sympathizer, PK has now immersed himself in Andhra Pradesh politics by trying to placate the unhappy factions. However, his efforts have hit a roadblock, with rebels openly questioning his authority to negotiate on the party's behalf.

The dissent stems from allegations that the TDP prioritized money over grassroots support while distributing tickets. Some TDP leaders claim their years of hard work were overlooked in favour of wealthy candidates, even ignoring recommendations from community groups.

As nomination withdrawal deadlines loom on April 29, the party leadership has scrambled to pacify the leaders. Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh have held talks, convincing some to retreat while others remain defiant.

In a last-ditch effort, Naidu has deployed Kishor to phone the disgruntled leaders, offering them positions and posts if they withdraw from the fray. However, many leaders have rebuffed Kishor, questioning his authority to make such promises when the TDP's return to power is uncertain.

"Who are you to make calls instead of the party chief?" some leaders have reportedly asked Kishor, leaving the strategist disturbed. Despite conveying the gist of these conversations to Naidu, Kishor is preparing for another round of calls, hoping to provide alternative incentives.

As election day draws near, the TDP faces an uphill battle to resolve the internal strife that could jeopardize its prospects at the polls.
