Vijayawada: Even as Chandrababu Naidu is getting his act together to contest the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, there is some bad news that’s going to hit the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) soon. The party’s lone Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar will be completing his tenure this April.
To make matters worse, Rajya Sabha elections for three seats in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to be held on February 27. This is the first time since the party came into existence, it will have zero representation in the Upper House. The opposition party currently has only 22 MLAs in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and the party needs 44 votes to win the Rajya Sabha seat.
It is not clear who the TDP leadership will nominate for the RS polls. However, speculations are rife that the politburo member Varla Ramaiah could get a nomination to the Upper House.
Reacting to the current development, YSRCP MP VIjayasai Reddy has said the after February, the TDP is set to lose its representation in the Rajya Sabha and if the current crisis in the opposition camp is any indication, the party will soon have zero MPs in the Lok Sabha too.
The decline of TDP is clear. After February, TDP will have Zero MPs in Rajya Sabha for the 1st time ever & soon after that TDP will have zero MPs in Lok Sabha. TDP is facing TDP (twin deficit problem), that is leadership deficit and trust deficit.

The TDP is facing an existential crisis and the party leadership has no idea how to troubleshoot the infighting in the party’s rank and file and put up a united front ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. The ruling YSRCP stands to make gains in the Rajya Sabha elections owing to its massive 151-seat strength in the state assembly.
