NRI Bhaskar Reddy Faces Illegal Arrest and Police Assault in Vijayawada

A controversy has erupted in Vijayawada after NRI Bhaskar Reddy and his brother Obul Reddy were arrested allegedly illegally and subjected to police assault. The two underwent medical examinations at the Vijayawada Government Hospital, after which they were taken to court under police custody.

According to eyewitnesses, Bhaskar Reddy was unable to walk when he was brought to court and claimed that he had been severely beaten by the police. He also alleged that officers were pressuring him to confess to posting false content on social media. Another case has reportedly been filed against him in addition to an existing case related to his online posts.

Bhaskar Reddy expressed anger over the alleged threats and intimidation by the police. He stated that he was being targeted for his social media posts that were supportive of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

As per reports, Malapati Bhaskar Reddy, who runs a supermarket in London, hails from Chodavaram village in Penamaluru mandal of Krishna district. He had returned to India earlier this month following his father’s death.

While visiting Kamineni Hospital in Thadigadapa for a medical check-up, Bhaskar Reddy and his brother were allegedly detained by police in plain clothes. Their family members claim they were not informed about the reason for the arrest or where the two were being taken.

The Penamaluru police, when questioned about the incident, reportedly gave vague and indifferent responses. Later, the brothers were brought to the Vijayawada Government Hospital for a formal medical examination before being produced in court.

Bhaskar Reddy’s family has expressed serious concern over his health and safety, demanding a transparent investigation into the alleged illegal detention and custodial assault. The incident has sparked criticism on social media, with many questioning the government’s alleged harassment of NRIs for their political views.
