Naidu visits Kuppam as YSRCP takes centre stage in his bastion

Chittoor: The political battleground in Andhra Pradesh is heating up. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is raring to go to polls without any ally’s support while the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has joined forces with Jana Sena Party and BJP to corner the chief minister at the hustings.

In view of numerous poll surveys predicting a landslide win for the ruling YSRCP, without any doubt, a TDP defeat is writ large on the wall. Not just the whole party, Naidu is fearing losing his own stronghold Kuppam to a resurging YSRCP. It will be a huge embarrassment for Naidu if he loses his own seat in the May 13 elections.

A determined Naidu has now turned his focus on Kuppam assembly constituency. He is on a two-day visit to Kuppam where he will launch an extensive poll campaign and conduct door-to-door campaign in some areas of the town. The TDP leader is expected to lure the voters with tall poll promises.

As Naidu is in his home constituency, he needs a reality check. Since the 2019 general elections, there has been a sharp change in the voters of Kuppam constituency. In the last few elections, Naidu’s winning margin has come down drastically. To make matters worse, the election commission has removed several bogus votes in his constituency which may be a troubling fact for the opposition leader.

In just four years under YSRCP, Kuppam gained municipality status and its own revenue division. The village secretariat system expanded access to governance down to every household. People of all parties, castes, and creeds now benefit from welfare schemes and development funds. Having experienced years of neglect under Naidu, Kuppam residents feel the current administration is finally addressing their needs. As a result, voters have decided to teach a lesson to Naidu in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha national elections.
