In a major jolt to the opposition alliance, firebrand leader Pothina Venkata Mahesh, a close aide of Pawan Kalyan, resigned from the Jana Sena Party on Monday. He sent his resignation to the party leadership announcing his separation.
Pothina’s decision to quit Jana Sena should not come as a shocker as he had been sulking over the party’s candidature from Vijayawada (West) assembly constituency. Pothina, who is considered close to the party chief Pawan Kalyan, was actively working to boost the party’s prospects in his constituency.
He was a strong contender for Vijayawada (West) seat, however, as part of seat-sharing formula, the assembly seat was allocated to another ally BJP. The saffron party has fielded Sujana Chowdary, who is closer to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, party’s candidate from this constituency. Pothina held several protests to build pressure on the party but Pawan Kalyan stated that some sacrifices have to be made for the greater good.
Addressing a press conference, Pothina Mahesh levelled serious allegations against Pawan Kalyan. He alleged that the Jana Sena leader is a confused soul and his poor decisions are hurting the party’s prospects. Pothina Mahesh also said that he had high hopes from Pawan Kalyan but felt betrayed after the party ignored his hard work.
