A major fire broke out at Indus Hospital near the Jagadamba centre in Vizag. A few passersby who observed the fire informed the nearest fire station.
Fire fighters reached the spot and doused the flames. As many as 40 patients were initially trapped inside the hospital. They have since been evacuated and moved safety to other hospitals in vehicles.
The patients who were undergoing treatment on the second floor (that's where the fire broke out) were urgently brought down with the help of ladders. Police are investigating the incident. The rescue operations were supported by four fire tenders. The rescue workers have been appreciated by the public for their timely response.
The fire could have been caused due to short circuit. Commoners gathered near the premises of the hospital to help with evacuation.
