Violence and allegations of election irregularities during the Andhra Pradesh local body elections have become a topic of national discussion. Incidents reported from several parts of the state, including Pulivendula, have attracted attention from national media organisations, journalists and political commentators.

The controversy involves allegations of booth capturing, bogus voting, attacks on polling agents and journalists, and questions about the role of police and election officials. The issue has also triggered discussions on social media.

Rajdeep Sardesai Questions Election Violence

Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai raised concerns about the violence during the local body elections. He questioned why such incidents were taking place and highlighted attacks on journalists covering the elections.

A team from India Today was reportedly attacked while covering the polling situation in Pulivendula. The incident also raised concerns about the safety of journalists during election coverage.

Ashutosh Ranka Reacts to Andhra Election Controversy

Ashutosh Ranka, national spokesperson of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), shared videos related to the alleged election irregularities on social media.

He criticised the incidents and questioned the conduct of the elections in Andhra Pradesh. His comments added to the ongoing national-level discussion about the situation in the state.

YS Jagan Raises Allegations of Polling Irregularities

YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also raised concerns about the elections. He alleged that his party's polling agents were prevented from entering several polling booths in Pulivendula.

Jagan demanded fresh polling in all 80 booths and questioned the response of election officials and police. He also met journalists who were reportedly attacked during election coverage.

The YSRCP approached the Supreme Court over alleged problems during the nomination process and sought intervention from election authorities.

Jagan Condemns Attacks on Journalists

YS Jagan also expressed concern over attacks on journalists covering the elections in Pulivendula. Reporters and camera personnel from India Today and NTV were reportedly attacked, and equipment was damaged during the incidents.

Jagan met the affected journalists, enquired about their well-being and condemned the attacks. He said journalists should be able to report election-related developments without fear.

He also demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible for the attacks.

YSRCP Seeks Fair Investigation and Repolling

The party has demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged incidents and repolling wherever electoral irregularities are established. Jagan has also called for stronger safeguards to protect polling agents, voters and journalists during elections.

Meanwhile, the ruling TDP has rejected the YSRCP's allegations and made counter-complaints about disturbances during polling. The allegations from both parties are subject to examination by the relevant authorities.

The controversy has brought the conduct of local body elections, the safety of polling agents and the protection of journalists into focus across Andhra Pradesh.
