CPS Survey: AP CM YS Jagan's Popularity Soars To New Heights

22 Jun, 2020 08:50 IST|Sakshi Post

AMARAVATI: In a clear endorsement of his pro-people push in Andhra Pradesh, a majority of people overwhelmingly supported Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his government's remarkable welfare measures. A survey conducted by the Centre for Psephology Studies (CPS) in 13 districts of the state from June 2 to 8 revealed that people are more than happy with YS Jagan's rule and while stamping their approval in overwhelming numbers for his YSR Congres Party (YSRCP) government in the state. CPS conducted the survey using 2,881 samples of people from all walks of life across the 13 districts of the state. The survey was conducted between November 23 and December 12 in 2019.

The survey also revealed that there is massive support, trust and confidence of the people for the hosts of welfare schemes introduced by YS Jagan's government and being implemented despite the steep fiscal deficit, a legacy left behind by the previous TDP regime. Of the total 2,881 people who took the survey, 55.2 per cent are rural respondents while 44.8 per cent are from urban areas. CPS enjoys a good track record in calling elections correctly and predicting seat and vote shares to various poll stakeholders with near-perfection. Before this, CPS had predicted, in its survey, that the YSRCP would win 133-135 Assembly seats in the 2019 elections.

According to the latest CPS survey, 55.8 per cent of the people in the state want YSRCP to be in power while only 38.3 per cent favoured the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena party together garnered only 5.3 per cent of support.

In another significant prediction, it said that, if Assembly elections are held in the state today, the YSRCP would once again score a landslide victory with a sweeping majority. In its observation, it said that the public welfare schemes implemented by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in the last one year of his rule have reached out to the public remarkably well and that is the reason for the unprecedented percentage of public endorsement for his government in the state.

Highlights of the CPS Survey:

  • As many as 71.6 per cent of people supported AP CM YS Jagan's novel initiative introducing English medium as the medium of instructionin in all government schools. Only 19.5 per cent disagreed with the decision.
  • About 95 per cent of parents of students studying in public and private schools gave their support for having English medium in government schools.
  • As many as 75.8 per cent of people appreciated the government's efforts in effectively tackling coronavirus by implementing anti-COVID-19 measures and conducting tests on a massive scale.
  • CPS report says 63.9 per cent of people acknowledged the fact that the YS Jagan-led YSRCP government is fulfilling all the promises made by it while only 35 per cent chose to disagree.
  • About 65.3 per cent of people in the state said that the welfare schemes are good and 33.7 per cent voted against the welfare schemes implemented by the government.
  • Also, 59.5 per cent of people in the proposed Amravati capital region supported the welfare schemes of the government.
  • There are 62.6 per cent people who expressed their satisfaction with the rule of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

A majority of people living in all areas of the state expressed their happiness over the YSRCP government implementing welfare schemes that reach out to every section of the public regardless of caste. But the opposition parties have uncharitably criticized YS Jagan's one-year rule as part of a deep-rooted political conspiracy.

YS Jagan remembered his father and former Chief Minister YS Rajashekhar Reddy on the occasion of Father's day on Sunday and said that his father is his strength and source of inspiration.

CM has said that Yoga has the power of bringing calm and strength to a person at the same time. Practising of Yoga not only brings physical strength but also gives us peace of mind, said YS Jagan. Celebrating Yoga Day on Sunday, CM urged people to make this ancient practice as part of their lives every day.
