Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Dates Fake

With Lok Sabha Elections nearing, the public is waiting for the dates of the polls. A schedule claiming to include the dates for the election are doing the rounds on social media for the last one week. The list of dates claims to be of the 2019 General Elections and has been shared across Facebook and WhatsApp.

The schedule reads,

Election 2019 For All India

Bihar - April 10,17,24,30 and May 7,12.

Odisha - April 10,17

West Bengal - April 17,24,30 and may 7,12

Jhadkhand - April 10,17,24

Chatisgarh - 10,17,24

MP - April 10,17,24

Goa - April 17

Gujarat - April 30

Maharashtra - April 17,24

Rajasthan - April 17,24

Haryana - April 10

Himnchal Pradesh - May 17

J&K - April 10,17,24,30 and May 7

Uttarakhand - May

Karnataka - April 17

Kerala - April 10

Tamilnadu - April 24

The list has several spelling errors including 'Laxyadip' for Lakshadweep, 'Badranagar habeli' for Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 'Jhadkhand' for Jharkhand, among others. Also, the Election Commission of India (ECI), in general, announces the election schedule via a press conference and an official press release.

With media reports citing the schedule to be from the 2014 elections, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has asked the city police to investigate the 'fake schedule' for Lok Sabha Polls.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the police to identify the source of fake news and take necessary action against them.
