Srinagar: The driver of the bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, which was attacked by the terrorists, has become the hero and the saviour for many people. But for his presence of mind in the most trying of the circumstances, there would have been many more deaths.
The driver, identified as Salim of Valsad in Gujarat, drove despite bullets being sprayed on the vehicle in utter disregard for his own safety. Despite continuous firing from the terrorists, Salim drove for over two kilometres. He risked his life and drove the vehicle to safety even after being hit a bullet. He is now being praised by everyone for his exemplary courage and bravery.
The bus, which is being driven by Salim, came under attack by LeT operatives in the volatile district of Anantnag. Salim locked the door from inside and continued to steer the vehicle and parked it near an army camp. The devotees were all praise for his effort.
Salim's family too felt proud over his bravery. Praising Salim's effort, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that he would nominate driver Salim for bravery award.
