Man Booked For Cheating State-Run Bank

The accused duped the banks to a tune of Rs 26 lakh

Krishna district police has booked a man in connection with an alleged bank Rs fraud case in Machilipatnam.

Accused S V Sontosh Kumar, who worked as an appraiser at the Machilipatnam branch of the state-run bank, used to replace original gold jewellery with fake ones and in this manner cheated the bank to the tunes of Rs 26 lakh.

"We have registered a case based on the complaint lodged by the branch manager. The fraud was reportedly going on for over a year now, and it came to light yesterday during the checking of records and gold ornaments," , Robertsonpet police station sub-inspector Habeeb Basha said.

According to the complaint, bank authorities had conducted an internal inquiry and based on its findings, the complaint was lodged.
