Outlawed Maoists suffered a major jolt when one of its top leaders Jampanna has reportedly given up arms and has surrendered to the police at Hyderabad. The affair was hush hush and sources say he and his wife Hinge Rajitha have surrendred.
Jampanna alias Jinugu Narasimha Reddy has been suffering from various ailments and had serious differences over the Maoists organisational tactics and ideology with the the top brass. At the time of the surrender, he is the member of the all-important Central Committee, the apex body of the Maoists.
Jampanna, a native of Cherlapalem in Torruru mandal of Mahabubnagar district, joined the underground outfit some 40 years ago. He carries a reward of Rs 24 lakh on his head, while his wife Hinge Rajitha carries a reward of Rs 20 lakh. Unconfirmed sources reveal that a top TRS leader had mediated between the Police and Jampanna and helped him in giving up arms.
