Almost 12000 seats were left vacant in the stadium due to the ongoing protests in Tamil Nadu

The most followed team of IPL 2018 Chennai Super Kings proved their might again during the match opposite the Kolkata Knidght Riders at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The team, which was basking in the glory of its victory at the IPL opening match created another record after winning their second match which was against Kolkata Knight Riders.

After a two-year long ban, the CSK team played their first IPL match at the Chennai Chepauk Stadium. Though CSK fans welcomed the team with an overwhelming response, cricket enthusiasts chose to stay glued to their TV sets to watch the match instead of visiting the stadium. As a result, almost 12000 seats were left vacant in the stadium due to the ongoing protests in Tamil Nadu.

The match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders was held amidst huge security as some of the anti-IPL protestors threatened to halt the match. Following threats received from the agitators, most of the fans confined themselves to the comforts of their homes assuming that the match would be disrupted.

Along with the activists, some film directors were also taken into custody for protests during the IPL match. While being detained, one of the activists alleged that IPL match was being held in Chennai to divert the attention from the Tamil struggle for Cauvery issue.
