This Viral Photo Got A Poor Child Admission In School

Hyderabad: The viral picture of a girl was standing outside with an empty bowl in a hope of getting some leftovers from lunch and mid-day meal moved many online and it has resulted in getting her admission in the same school.

The photo which was clicked at Deval Jham Singh Government High School in Hyderabad was published in a Telugu daily with the title 'Aakali Choopu' which means 'hungry look'.

According to reports, the girl is identified as Divya who is the daughter of garbage collector and sweeper residing in a nearby slum. She visited the school daily in the hope of getting food after her parents went out for work.

The photo caught the attention of Venkat Reddy, National Convenor at MV Foundation, an NGO that works for the rights of the girl child. He took to his social media and shared the clipping of the newspaper. He wrote, "Why not this child is enrolled and have her right to food and right to education...it's a shame..."

According to reports, Venkat coordinated with his organisation and other volunteers in the area and helped Divya to get admission in the same school. Later he shared a photo of the girl and her parents on the first day of school, in which the girl is wearing a new school uniform.

He wrote, "Divya exercised her constitutional right to be in school. Today our team and other community members admitted her in the same school where she was waiting for lunch bell to eat her food.....Congratulations team."
