Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday stayed the NEET counselling for admissions into Super Speciality Courses in medicine, such as DM/MCh for the colleges which are affiliated to Dr NTR University of Health Sciences in AP and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences in Telangana.

A bench comprising of Justice V. Rama Subramanian and Justice T. Rajani passed the orders on the Writ petition filed by Dr B. Satish Kumar and 12 others against a letter issued by the Centre directing both the varsities to conduct a common counselling for all the seats of NEET Super Speciality-2017.

At the court hearing senior counsel S. Satyam Reddy said that admission into special courses in Telangana and AP are governed under Article 371-D issued by the President. The article states that the students from other states are not allowed into the colleges of AP and Telangana. In such case, universities in other states also should not allow the students from AP and Telangana even in non-local quota, Reddy said.

Reddy also said that the students who are selected in other states under non-local category were denied admission by the universities.

The bench also directed the Union Ministry of Health, the Director General of Health Services and National Board of Examination to file their counters within a week.

The bench adjourned the hearing to August 24.
