
Hyderabad: Two women officials of an NGO-run hostel were arrested on Saturday for making five minor girls clean a manhole. The NGO - Ambassadors of Goodwill for AIDS Patients Everywhere (AGAPE) in Uppal is an orphanage for HIV positive patients. The incident came to light after a child rights activist, Achyuta Rao, had submitted a video to the police, purportedly showing some girls cleaning drainage at the hostel run by AGAPE.
The Child Welfare Committee for Rangareddy district has looked into the matter and said that they will be summoning caretakers of the orphanage on Tuesday.

A case under Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act (subjecting children to cruelty) has been registered against them, said inspector Narasimha Reddy. NGO Balala Hakkula Sangham demanded stern action against the AGAPE officials and sought its closure.
