He said that “the Padmavati controversy is an opportunity to focus on the conditions of Rajasthani women today.”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has now stepped into the troubled waters of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' tweeting that debate should center around literacy levels in Rajasthan today, rather than focus on queens six centuries ago. He said that "the Padmavati controversy is an opportunity to focus on the conditions of Rajasthani women today."

Tharoor made this comment retweeting another twitter user, Rukshmani Kumari's tweet that the women of Rajasthan should be more offended by the fact that their state is at the bottom when it comes to women in areas such as education, health and child mortality.

However, in Shashi Tharoor's tweet, auto correct turned the word, "ghoonghats" into “thang hoong hats”, confounding twitterati. The Thiruvananthapuram MP had to tweet again to clarify what he originally meant to say, before auto correct hijacked his tweet.

Sanjay Bhansali's period film is based on the life of the legendary fourteenth century queen and has had its fair share of controversies. Rajputs in particular, claim that the movie distorts historical facts and offends their sensibilities. The renowned film-maker was manhandled once and the shooting of the film, disrupted. Many groups have been protesting against its screening. Scheduled to be released on December 1, the movie features Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Rani Padmavati's husband, Maharaja Ratan Singh.
