After the massive success of Ram Charan-Samantha Akkineni-starrer Rangasthalam, Tollywood director Sukumar has been among the directors who has been most sought after. The film, which had a fictional village Rangasthalam, as its backdrop, has managed to gross Rs 120 crore at the Box Office. With this success, Ram Charan and Samantha achieved personal records in terms of collections earlier this year. Rangasthalam was percieved as one of the biggest hits of the Telugu film industry. Sukumar, however, remained silent after Rangasthalam made waves in the Telugu States in March this year.

Although there was buzz around a Sukumar-Prabhas combination for a period drama, it appeared that Mahesh Babu was keen on working with Sukumar for yet another movie after making 1 Nenokkadine in 2014.

In a matter of concern to Mahesh Babu fans, Sukumar is yet to finalise Mahesh's characterization in the movie. According to recent buzz, Mahesh and Sukumar had agreed to make a film based on a novel. However, Sukumar is in the process of re-working on Mahesh's character after initial discussions. Mahesh Babu, on the other side, is upset over the delay in the pre-production phase.

The Bharat Ane Nenu star was initially committed to finishing Vamsi Paidipally's film before beginning Sukumar's film. In this scenario, Mahesh Babu is believed to re-associate with Sukumar late in 2019. If sources are to be believed, Mahesh Babu will dedicate his entire time for the Vamsi Paidipally film until completion.
