The popular television reality show, Big Boss seems to have come under the scanner of the Human Rights Commission after a complaint was lodged with the commission by Rapolu Bhaskar, an advocate.

The petitioner alleged that women were being portrayed in a poor light and degraded on the reality show. In the name of “tasks“, 16 individuals were kept captive in a house and given frivolous exercises which were of no use to society, the complaint is reported to have said.

The lawyer expressed his anguish that the institution of family was being damaged by such shows which also hurt the sentiments of people, according to the complaint. The petitioner further alleged that some business houses were driven by profits and TRPs in the telecast of the show. The participants were given “tasks” such as cleaning the bathrooms on the big boss set and the so-called “boss“ treated the others like slaves, which was against democratic principles, the complaint is reported to have said.

To restrain people and not allow them to leave the house violated human rights, it said. People who watched this show would be mentally disturbed, the petition further said.
