DuPont inaugurates new crop research center in Hyderabad

DuPont, seeds firm inaugurated its new crop research centre across a land area of more than 100 acres in Hyderabad

, for research and development of corn, rice, millet, mustard and cotton hybrid seeds, catering to needs of farmers in Indian subcontinent.

DuPont South Asia and ASEAN President Balvinder Singh Kalsi said, "Our investment in this multi-crop research center demonstrates our ongoing commitment to harness DuPont global science to create local solutions for Indian farmers and help address food security." The research centre can accommodate up to 120 researchers, the company said in a statement.

The facility will also enable the deployment of breeding technologies such as molecular breeding, doubled haploids for development of high quality hybrids adapted to local and regional growing conditions. He added that new research facility will play a pivotal role in understanding regional challenges, weather changes, soil types and applying science to develop higher yielding products suitable to the Indian environment.

"We are pleased to build this type of cutting-edge plant research facility in India where some of the greatest opportunities to address global food security exist," said DuPont Pioneer India Country Manager Sharad Khurana.

Hyderabad is also home for ICRISAT.
