KURNOOL: In a tragic accident, a six-year-old boy named Purushottam Reddy (6), studying in a private school at Panyam in Kurnool district died after he accidentally fell into a piping hot Sambar vessel, on Wednesday.

Pursuhotham Reddy was the son of Shyamsundar Reddy and Kalpana who belonged to Thippayipalle village in Orvakallu mandal. Kalpana had died two years ago and the boy's father enrolled Purushottam Reddy in Vijayanikethan Residential School in UKG.

On Wednesday afternoon the hostel students were standing in the queue for their lunch in the usual routine. As it is normal for children to jostle for space in the queue line, Purushottam Reddy were pushed from behind and he fell into a big vessel, which contained piping hot Sambar, which was in front of him.

The school attender (ayyamma) named Peeramma immediately took him out from the vessel and the school management rushed him to a local hospital for treatment. His father was also informed about the incident. However, as he had severe burns and there were blisters all over his skin, the local doctors advised them to shift the boy to Kurnool Hospital for better treatment. However, little Purushottam died while undergoing treatment at Kurnool Government Hospital.

Several student union leaders staged a protest at the school on Wednesday night, demanding that action to be taken up against the school management for negligence that lead to the boy's death. Apart from the lack of proper facilities at the school, they alleged that the school correspondent and the directors switched off their cell phones and were not responding. Police were called in to diffuse the situation and the protestors left only after the police intervention.

Panyam police are investigating the case and are ascertaining as to what caused the accident.

This is not the first such incident to occur. In December 2016, a 5-year-old boy studying at a Government Primary School in Nalgonda district of Telangana died after falling in a vessel of hot sambar, which was being prepared for mid-day meal.
