Matrimonial Fraud: Man Cheats Nine Women Promising Marriage In Chennai, Held

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Police nabbed a 35-year-old man who had cheated over nine women in the state. The man, identified as M Vidyuth alias Chakaravarthy of Tiruvannamalai has been accused of befriending women on matrimonial sites and extorting money in the pretext of marrying them.

A woman doctor in the city recently filed a complaint with the Chennai city police stating that a man cheated her of money after promising to marry her. After the police launched the investigation, Chakaravarthy was found to have cheated several women. According to the police, the accused befriended women through matrimonial websites, particularly doctors and engineers in the disguise of a doctor working in Washington.

After exchanging conversations, he takes up his desire to marry the woman and borrow a large amount of money in a bid to start a business. The accused, managed to dupe several women under different pretexts. The police informed that the accused extorted at least Rs 9 crore from the victims.

Also, eight other women had registered cases against him in Anna Nagar station in Madurai, Lalkudi in Tiruchy and in other districts.

The police revealed that Chakaravarthy kept changing names to cheat women and has already been arrested on several occasions. At present, the accused was produced before the magistrate in Poonamallee court and sent to prison.
