Three Diamond-Studded Gold Crowns Missing From Tirupati Temple

Tirupati: Three gold crowns from the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati went missing on Saturday evening. Even though the Govindaraja Swamy Temple is located in Tirupati, it's maintenance and activities are supervised by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

The TTD officials and police are investigating the incident. According to the TTD officials, the crowns belong to the processional deities at one of the 18 sub-temples in Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple and the staff noticed the crowns missing around 5.45 pm.

In order to offer Naivedyam, the temple was closed for devotees at 5 pm and reopened within 45 minutes following which the staff noticed the three diamond-studded gold crowns worth 1.300 kg were missing.

Tirupati Urban SP Anburajan, TTD Vigilance Officers are investigating into the incident. The temple staff and priests are being questioned by the vigilance officials who also are verifying the CCTV footage in the temple. A report is expected to be submitted to the TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal and Chairman P Sudhakar Yadav about the incident after which a formal police complaint will be registered.

Located in the heart of the temple town, the Sri Govindarajaswamy temple was built in the 12th century by Sri Ramanujacharyas.
