Shameerpet: A 25-year old housewife , P Srilatha a(25) committed suicide by immolating herself at her house in Shameerpet on Thursday.

She married P Mahendar around four years ago. They had two sons, aged two years and eight months .

Mahendar had taken to drinking off late and had turned into an alcoholic. She made several requests for him to change his habits but he did not stop drinking.

Vexed up with him for not changing his ways, she locked the house from inside the house and poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze.

Hearing her screams, the neighbours broke open the doors and took her to Gandhi hospital. She succumbed to 50 degree burns in the morning hours (11:30 AM).

Police have registered a case under suspicious death on a complaint filed by the deceased’s kin for the probe.

Shameerpet inspector B Naveen Reddy said that Srilatha immolated herself in the kitchen when both her children were at home but fortunately the kids were safely rescued by their neighbours, and later handed over to their grandparents.
