During the course of investigation, the police found that the victims who lost their money were once customers of a coffee shop at Jubilee Hills. When the customers paid their bill using their debit/credit cards which were given to the coffee shop employee Sachin Kumar, he would then swipe the cards in the skimming machine and also copy the PIN numbers. Later, he would share the information to the Kingpin of the racket,Sumit Jhingran ,who paid Rs 2000 for each card detail and PIN.

On August 30, 2017, Sachin was arrested and another accused Kevin Jerry D'Souza, a Mumbai resident was also arrested in October this year. Based on the interrogation , the Cyberabad police nabbed Kingpin Sumit Jhingran and Gaurav Varma of Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. The police are still searching for Rafiq Faruk Khan of Mumbai who is also part of this scam.

VC Sajjanar, Cyberabad Police Commissioner said the accused Sumit hails from Varanasi and is an MBA dropout. Later, he started working in a call centre at Mumbai. Due to financial problems he decided to make money through swiping the cards of customers. He purchased skimmers, magnetic strips and MSR (Magnetic Stripe Reader) machines online and contacted waiters and bearers who work in star restaurants and pubs in cities and lured them into collecting these details and paid them Rs 2000 for each PIN.
