20 Illegal Orphan Homes Closed Down in Ranga Reddy District

The Women and Child Welfare Department of Telangana on Friday ordered for closure of 20 unregistered orphan homes located in Ranga Reddy district.

Hyderabad: The Women and Child Welfare Department of Telangana on Friday ordered for closure of 20 unregistered orphan homes located in Ranga Reddy district. According to the officials, at least 600 children who are living in these homes would be shifted to other homes for protection and better care.

The unregistered homes came to light when Cyberabad police made were on the operation Muskaan where 208 children have been rescued. It is learnt that some of the homes are running illegally which did not even have a license. The police started checking all such illegal homes in the limits of Rajendranagar. Recently Dove Orphan Children home at Bandlaguda was identified in one such drive.

Cyberabad DCP (Women Protection Cell) C Anasuya said "During the raid, 20 orphan homes were found running illegally out of 76 homes and are not registered with the Women and Child Welfare department in accordance with the Juvenile Justice act." She also said that they would conduct such raids repeatedly to verify the children's living conditions at the homes and to ensure their safety.

A Devendra Chary, Ranga Reddy District Child Protection Officer said "Out of the 76 homes, 56 have applied for the licences and a temporary licences were given. The Telangana government is working for a new online system to apply registrations for their orphanages. The new system will ready within couple of weeks. Through this online system the existing homes can apply for permanent registration."
