Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the revolutionary decisions the State government had taken are yielding results.

Speaking at the 208th Bankers’ Conference here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that the reverse tendering and other path-breaking decisions the government had taken are yielding the desired results.

The Polavaram reverse tendering has saved Rs 782 cores to the exchequer, which is a sign that we are moving in the right direction and austerity measures are in place, he said.

The Judicial Preview of the tenders made earlier was a big step, which was taken in the State for the first time, and it is bound to bring in good results.

Speaking further he said that the Polavaram re tendering has given enough proof that we can root out corruption and save public money which was earlier given on a platter to the contractors who had quoted exorbitant rates or had acquired the bidding qualification through unfair means. In no other state does the reverse tendering and Judicial Preview exist. We want to usher in transparency in the governance, he said. There is no judicial preview and no reversing mechanism in any state. Any tender exceeding Rs 100 crore is being brought to the attention of the judge. Judicial preview is the best way to transparent procedures.

Even in cancelling, the PPAs we have been trying to save public money and the results will be there for everyone to see, he said. When YSRCP came to power, we had a review meeting with the power authorities and they said that there are debts over Rs.20 thousand crores. YS Jagan further said that there were no payments for 13 months from the past TDP government led by former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. DISCOMs may not survive if they didn't have reviewed on higher-priced PPAs.

CM YS Jagan said that the entrepreneurs are backing down and saying that the current tariffs are too high in the state. It is not yet possible to increase the current tariffs offered by the industry. We are making efforts to rectify the situation in the power sector. CM YS Jagan asked the bankers to cooperate in the revival of the power sector.
