Demolition of Praja Vedika building

Amaravati: The demolition of the building, Praja Vedika convention hall was underway on Wednesday morning. Following Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's order, authorities made preparations to demolish the illegal structures on Tuesday night as six bulldozers along with dozens of workers arrived at the premises to vacate the occupants from the complex ahead of the demolition.

The order was issued on Monday as the government building was in violation of rules and involved corruption. The Chief Minister stated that the complex was built illegally and constructed by the previous government in 2017 at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

The furniture, electronic equipment, and other segregate items which can be reused were removed from the premises. Police personnel were deployed outside the building to avoid any untoward situations if protests erupt against the demolition.

The building was constructed during the tenure of former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati, located next to his residence. Chandrababu, who was on vacation abroad is scheduled to return tonight. The building was used as a venue to meet the public, hold press conferences and conduct administrative work. Earlier, the TDP President had written to the new Chief Minister to allow him to retain the hall to function as the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly.

The demolition began on Tuesday evening with a JCB machine, six trucks, and 30 laborers.
