Tirupati: Five persons including two women died while four others were injured when their car rammed into a truck near Guravarajupalle, 20 km from here, on Friday, police said.

While four people were killed on the spot, another died in the hospital, adding that the condition of two injured persons remains critical, they said.

The mishap occurred at the crack of dawn ar around 4:30 am ,when the vehicle with ten pilgrims coming from Rudravaram village of Achampet Mandal in Guntur district were on their way to Tirumala, crashed into the stationary truck.

Police suspect that the driver of the car might have dozed off behind the wheel resulting in the accident.

The injured were admitted to SVRR Government hospital here, police said. The deceased were Satyanarayana Reddy (40), his wife Vijayalakshmi (38), Prasanna (14) and Chenna Kesava Reddy (12) and the driver were killed on the spot. Five more were injured in the accident and three are in a serious condition.

The driver who was said to be over speeding did not realize that the lorry was parked on the left side of the road .it over speeding and dozing off at the wheel while driving would have caused the accident. On the other hand, police say that the lorry was wrongly parked on the road and have filed a case on the lorry driver for wrong parking on the high way.

Police also said that there were no speed breakers and they had sent instructions to roads and buildings department for installing the same.
