It is said that that TDP Chief and Leader of Opposition AP Assembly, N Chandrababu Naidu plans to conduct his operations from this very building in the district.

The disputed land in question located in Arundalpet which is in the heart of Guntur, bearing 12/3 TS No 826 admeasuring 1000 square yards belonged to the Guntur Municipal Corporation. On July 1, 1999 the TDP took the land on lease for 30 years to build the TDP District office. As per the lease agreement, they had to pay a rent of Rs 25,000 per annum and the land had to be renewed for every 3 years with a 33% increase in the rent. Apart from the 1000 square yards, the TDP illegally occupied 1,637 square yards of land which was next to the site and built a three-storied structure which was meant to be the TDP district office.

In 2016, Nara Lokesh announced that the TDP Guntur district office would be converted into the TDP AP State office because of its central location and proximity to the Capital region and other surrounding districts like Krishna, Prakasam etc. This was announced in April 2016, after he had inspected the building and enquired about the land after conducting a meeting with the local TDP leaders.

Since then the party had not paid any taxes nor renewed the lease for the past 20 years. While the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) had neither questioned nor issued notices to them for this illegal structure either. The locals are demanding that at least now the GMC authorities take possession of the prime land which is worth several crore now and use it for the right purposes.

Responding to this report by Sakshi, Guntur City Planner S Chakrapani after verifying the land records declared that the said TDP AP State Office had no permissions. He also mentioned that for the past 15 years no tax was levied since there was no permission granted and notices would be issued to the TDP offices soon.
