The YSR Congress Party's tsunami swept across Andhra Pradesh with trends by noon showing a clear lead in over 150 constituencies of the 175 assembly seats in the state. The party surging ahead under the leadership of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is leading in all the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state as well, marking an unprecedented sweep.

YS Jagan battled against all odds in the most adverse circumstances. From the time that the state was bifurcated in 2014, the trying circumstances and challenges he faced included a murder attempt on him at the Visakhapatnam airport on October 25, 2018. Undeterred by the hurdles posed by a vindictive Chandrababu Naidu government, YS Jagan remained focussed on his task of serving the people of the state with dedication. He began his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, a mass contact initiative on November 6, 2017 and for 14 months, till he concluded it in January 2019, the YSRCP chief walked through villages and towns of the state. He saw for himself the suffering of the people under the TDP and the apathy of the ruling party towards the hardships of the common citizens. In village after village, the problems were the same—drinking water scarcity, loan waivers, belt shops and mushrooming of wine shops, growing unemployment and non-payment of fee reimbursement dues. Farmers everywhere were in a state of deep distress as their loans were not waived and their debts kept mounting conversely, with banks hounding them for payment. Water for irrigation was another major problem they were plagued with. DWCRA women self help groups found themselves at the receiving end with the TDP government going back on his promise to waive their loans. Like farmers, they too were harassed by banks for payments. People poured out their woes to YS Jagan on his Praja Sankalpa Yatra and walked alongside him in all parts of the state. The sight of YS Jagan walking on the road-cum-rail bridge in Godavari was a sight to behold and a moment in history. People waited patiently for five years to deliver their verdict, and when they did, they have YS Jagan an overwhelming mandate to preside over the destiny of Andhra Pradesh.
