Red-faced TDP Govt Awaits Poll Body Permit For Cabinet Meet

Amaravati:The proposed Cabinet meet by TDP government slated to be held on May 10 has been postponed and in all likelihood will be on May 14. The decision comes after chief secretary LV Subramanyam suggested that the government write to the Election Commission of India to seek its permission to hold such a meeting when the poll code is in place.

Despite suggesting him to withdraw such a proposal initially since the Code in place, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had been hell-bent on his decision. However, it seems that the government itself later decided to go back on its decision thinking that the issue might leave them red-faced. It is learnt that the chief secretary had advised the Chief Minister’s Office that it would take about two days for the Election Commission to act after writing to them for permission.

The Cabinet meet, according to the TDP, has been called for discussing on issues pertaining to Cyclone Fani, drought conditions, water scarcity and other issues. One fails to understand why the TDP government wants to convene a Cabinet meet for routine administrative issues, when they are claiming that no policy decisions would be taken.
