DWCRA women stage protest in Mydukur

Amaravati/Mydukur: Despite the several claims from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the DWCRA women have not received the third installment of the Pasupu Kumkuma scheme. The cheques which were released after constant struggle are now stuck at the banks with the officials not reimbursing them. The women are now staging dharnas in front of the banks in this regard.

The TDP leaders who hoped to gain a lot of adulation from the public during the election are now facing a setback. However, they are assuring the DWCRA women that the postdated checks issued with the date of April 5 will be valued at any bank for the period of three months.

The Chief Minister has ordered the party leaders to conduct large-scale rallies in the state with the DWCRA divisions once the checks are cleared. Accordingly, SERP (Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty) CEO Krishnamohan sent messages to Area APMs, Area Coordinators, Sanghamitra-Animators. In case the orders are not followed, disciplinary action will be taken against the employees.

With the issuance of orders by the SERP CEO, the low-level staff in the districts were forced to withdraw the checks in order to gather the DWCRA women at the banks on April 8-9. However, when the women approached the banks on Monday, the officials claimed to reimburse the checks after four days. Speaking to Sakshi exclusively, Bharati, a member of the DWCRA Society explained that they are worried that the checks won't be reimbursed after the election, hence they have taken to protests. The women staged a dharna at the Indian bank near the Times Hospital in Vijayawada Harbor Road. Under the Mangalagiri constituency, checks belonging to around 420 DWCRA groups from Yerrabalem, Navuluru, Bethapudi villages were withdrawn. On Monday, 3.75 lakh checks belonging to various groups were deposited in the banks, said SERP CEO Krishna Mohan.

With the checks under the third installment of the Pasupu Kumkuma scheme not being released, thousands of women are faulting the TDP government. The DWCRA women were further frustrated when the Indian State Bank staff in Mydukur told them that they had not received any directions from the government. Following this, they staged a dharna in front of the bank resulting in a traffic jam on the Kurnool-Chittoor National Highway.
