AP Police Erect Barricades To Prevent Masses From Attending YS Jagan Election Rally

Amaravati: It appears that Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is gripped by a sense of imminent defeat judging by the way his men and machinery have been acting. The ruling TDP is rattled at the swelling crowds at each election rally of the YSR Congress Party President in scorching summer heat and is now resorting to desperate methods to stop people from attending YS Jagan's election meetings. On Wednesday, police made every effort to stop people from attending YS Jagan's public meeting in Mylavaram of Krishna district, minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao's constituency.

To prevent people from thronging the meeting venue, police blocked them at various entry points and obstructed YS Jagan's convoy by placing a truck on the road. This is the first time that AP police have tried blocking the YSRCP chief's convoy. However, undeterred by the police action, people from neighbouring villages flocked to the site of the meeting in large numbers, leaving the police non-plussed.

The YSRCP chief reached Mylavaram on Wednesday evening by helicopter after completing his election rallies in Guntur and Prakasam districts. YS Jagan set out for the venue of the meeting soon after his helicopter landed at the helipad built near the Government hospital on Tiruvooru road. However, when YS Jagan's convoy reached the government school here, police blocked it by placing a truck on the road. The local CI told YSR Congress Party leaders that there was no permission for the YSRCP chief's convoy to travel down the road and said a roundabout route to reach the venue had been approved. The cops refused to heed to the pleas of party leader.

YS Jagan, in protest to the authoritarian ways of the local minister and the CI's behaviour, began walking to the venue. Unnerved by this development, the cops, after YS Jagan had walked for about 100 metres, said they would allow only his bulletproof vehicle.

To prevent people from attending the election rally addressed by YS Jagan, Mylavaram police erected barricades on all roads from Vijayawada, Tiruvuru, Nuzvid and other areas. People however, flocked to the meeting surmounting the obstacles placed by the police and got into an argument with the cops for their distatorial behaviour in many places. Mylavaram police's authoritarian clampdown reportedly at the behest of minister Devineni Uma, may have actually backfired. Vallabhaneni Dharma Rao, a farmer from a neighbouring village, said that he had only come out of curiosity, but after the manner in which policemen pushed him and held him by the scruff of his neck, he was determined to vote for the YSRCP and would tell others too, he said, as he was fuming.
