
Guntakal Assembly constituency is one of 14 constituencies in the Anantapur district. As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of a population of 3,15,845 44.62% is rural and 55.38% is urban.Guntakal and Gooty Pamidi are the two mandals in this constituency.
As per the voter list of 2018, there are 2,21,912 voters and 256 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout in the 2014 assembly election was 74.66% . The BJP, the INC, the YSRCP and the TDP got 2.24%, 1.3%, 44.29% and 47.24% votes respectively in 2014 Assembly Elections.
R Jithendra Goud (TDP) is the present MLA of Guntakal Legislative Assembly. He defeated Y R Venkata Rami Reddy of the YSR Congress Party by a minor difference of 5094 votes in the 2014 elections.
Both the candidates have been re-nominated and will be contesting again in this election in 2019 in a triangular fight along with Jana Sena Party candidate and former MLA Madhusudhan Gupta.
YR Venkatarami Reddy has been working dedicatedly for the past nine years in this region and has garnered respect for his work. Though he lost the previous elections with marginal vote there are chances of his winning this time as he has a deep local connect and also has the strong support of his brother Mantralayam MLA Balanagi Reddy.
The key issues faced in this region are drinking water, promise of a separate railway zone in Guntakal, unemployment issues and water for the Rayalseema region to be addressed by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal.
