Graphic Presentation of Amaravati

Amaravati: We were told that there would be skyscrapers and grand buildings, architecture of the most impressive kind and iconic structures which would surpass those of Japan Malaysia and Singapore.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu‘s picture of Amaravati as capital city of Andhra Pradesh was one which would leave anyone dazed.

Where is the promised Amaravati today?

On October 22, 2015, Chandrababu Naidu got the foundation stone laid for the global capital of the state at Amaravati by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state government acquired 53,000 acres for its construction.

The TDP supremo then showed a graphics presentation of the scale of Baahubali. If one looks at Amaravati today, one gets an idea of the conjuror’s trick which Chandrababu playsed on the people of the state.

The much-touted capital city is a glowing example of shady real estate deals and government failure.

Of the 53,000 acres of land which was acquired, 99% lies waste and desolate. Token work is being done on 500 acres! Now, with elections a few days away the government is pretending to focus on Amaravati as if it can get any tangible work done before May 23.

In all, the Chandrababu Government acquired 53,581 acres out of which 15,000 acres alone is government owned. It eyed 38,581 acres for acquisitions from farmers in 29 villages in the name of land pooling.

Using all available means including force, the TDP government acquired 33,208 acres from farmers under land pooling and prepared the ground to acquire another 3,800 acres of land.

Finally, how much land did the Chandrababu government assign to the construction of the capital city? The TDP government allotted only 1,350 acres to the construction of the new capital of which only 500 acres are being utilised currently for token building activity. Thousands of acres of land lies desolate and unutilised.

The promised global capital city which was meant to surpass Singapore and other metropolitan cities, has not yet materialised and all one finds here is a waste land.
