Mantralayam  YSRCP Candidate Y Balanagireddy

Mantralayam /Kurnool: Mantralayam Assembly constituency is located in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh and comes under the Kurnool Lok Sabha constituency. It is one of 14 constituencies in the Kurnool district. Peda Kadubur, Mantralayam, Kosigi, Kowthalam are the four mandals in this constituency. The famous Raghavendra Swamy temple is located in the Mantralayam mandal here.

As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 265684 population 100% is rural population.

According to the voter list of 2018, there are 158258 voters and 230 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout in the 2014 assembly election was 78.23% . The YSR Congress Party had earlier swept the parliament and Assembly polls in Kurnool district in 2014 by winning two parliament and 11 out of 14 Assembly seats.

The main problems Mantralayam faces is that it is very hot and dry for most part of the year. It has witnessed many droughts and gone without rain but at the same time, it has also experienced devastating floods, like the one in 2007 when theTungabhadra river submerged the Mantralayam mandal and the temple. Apart from this poor quality ground water, irrigation water for the farmers, fluoride levels in the ground water in some areas, are some of the problems it faces.

Y Balanagireddy (YSRCP) is the present MLA of Mantralayam Legislative Assembly. The Mantralayam TDP ticket was given to Tikka Reddy who has been serving the Telugu Desam Party as party Assembly in-charge. Balanagi Reddy, who won from the constituency in 2009 and 2014 has managed to keep the YSRCP flag flying and could repeat the win again this time. He is a popular leader among the constituents and has a good grassroots connect.
