AP Polls 2019: Contest On Cards For Jaggayyapeta LS Seat

Jaggayyapeta /Krishna District: Jaggayyapeta Assembly constituency is located in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh and is one of 16 constituencies that comes under the Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency.

As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 259210 population 79.35% is rural and 20.65% is urban.

As per the voter list of 2018, there are 168478 electorates and 207 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout in the 2014 assembly election was 89.64% where as it was 88.9% in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.

The BJP, the INC, the YSRCP and the TDP got %, 1.2%, 47.73% and 48.84% votes respectively in 2014 Assembly.

Raja Gopal Sreeram (Tathaiah) (TDP) is the present MLA of Jaggayyapeta Legislative Assembly. Samineni Udaya Bhanu was renominated as the YSR Congress party (YSRCP) candidate for the Jaggayyapeta Legislative Assembly again.

A twice-elected (1991 and 2004) MLA from the same constituency, Udaya Bhanu will be pitted against the incumbent Raja Gopal Sreeram of the TDP again.

The dominant castes in this segment are Kammas, Vysyas and Kapus. While Udayabhanu is a Kapu, Rajagopal is a Vysya.

Jaggayepta was formed almost 200 years ago by its last ruler Rajah Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu who named the town after his father Jaggayya. It is predominately an agrarian economy where cotton and chillies are the staple crops.

The area has rich deposits of limestone and has a few big cement companies who have set up their plants here which provide employment to more than 8000 people here.

Drinking water , pollution problems because of the cement factories and poor ground water levels are some of the major problems faced by the people here. Civic amenities, no proper underground drainage system, stagnation of sewage water and overflowing drainages are perennial problems here.Lift irrigation projects have been pending since long for the farmers here.
