EC Serious Over Massive Online Deletion Of AP Voters Using Form-7

Amaravati: The TDP leadership led by Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister, Nara Lokesh are resorting to a novel way to try to get re-elected. Traditionally, money was pumped in at the time of elections by political parties to wrest power, it was always alleged.

Making a mockery of democracy, however, the TDP is methodically indulging in the deletion of names of voters considered YSRCP sympathizers. This exercise began as far back as November 2018, covering 175 constituencies across the state of Andhra Pradesh. While the entire exercise is said to be guided by Chandrababu, it is being actively monitored by Nara Lokesh, it is learnt.

In each constituency of the state, the TDP's aim is to delete between 6,000 and 21,000 voters' names, it is learnt. Nara Lokesh's team is said to be directing all its energies towards this end. This team is submitting online requisitions on behalf of YSRCP sympathizers seeking deletion of their names through Form-7. So far, 8,73,500 online applications across AP have been submitted and this in itself tells a story. Official sources say that this is is the first time that such a huge number of applications have been received.

The Election Commission officials are said to have been surprised at thousands of online applications seeking deletion of voters' names using Form-7 from each district in the state. The EC has now decided to verify each such application at the ground level. The highest number of Form-7 applications have come from Guntur (1,13,500) and Chittoor (1,02,500) districts.

The Election Commission is learnt to have taken a serious view of such a large number of online applications. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state has already made this clear. The Election Commission has directed all district collectors to take stern steps under IPC against those indulging in criminal practices by deleting voters' names in AP.
