YS Jagan Attack: CISF, AP Police Blame Each Other

25 Oct, 2018 16:19 IST|Sakshi
Attack on YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam Airport

In a clear case of passing the buck, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Andhra Pradesh Police disowned responsibility for the security lapse in the cowardly attack on the life of Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSR Congress party (YSRCP) Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Visakhapatnam Airport this afternoon. It may be recalled that while the Leader of Opposition was seated in the premium lounge at the airport this afternoon, Janipalli Srinivasa Rao, a waiter in Fusion Foods at the airport, approached YS Jagan seeking a selfie with him. With a bottle in his hand and a knife behind it, the culprit attacked the YSRCP Chief as he rose from the chair he was seated in.

The Director General of AP Police, RP Thakur said that it was the CISF which was responsible for secirity at the airport, while the Director General of CISF CV Anand said that the Central Force security personnel were authorised only to check the identity of the passengers. Scrutinizing the baggage was not in the purview of the CISF, he said. He repeated this answer when Sakshi TV questioned him more than once on this particular aspect of airport security claiming that the duty of the security personnel of the CISF was limited to ascertaining the identity of the passengers.

On the other hand, DG of AP Police Thakur maintained that airport security was the responsilbilty of the CISF. It appears that both the security agencies are pre-occupied with pasing the buck to each other without owning responsibility for this dangerous attack on a mass leader's life.
