HCU Biodiversity: High-Court Orders Telangana Govt. to Stop Activities, Delays Inquiry
In a giant relief to the protesting students at the Hyderabad Central University over the tree cutting by the Telangana Forest Ministry in Kancha Gachibowli, the High Court issues a stay order with immediate effect to stop the proceedings.
The moment the stay order came from the High Court, all the JCBs made their way back, and there won't be further destruction of trees until further instructions from the Telangana High Court.
The High Court has decided to resume arguments on the PIL tomorrow, the 3rd of April. Until then, the government cannot use the JCBs to cut down trees and disrupt the wildlife.
This decision from the High Court comes moments after the Central Environment Ministry requested an action report from its Telangana counterpart to submit to them with immediate effect.
Even though the truce is temporary, the settlement comes as a necessary break for the protesting students who faced police lathi charges twice this morning. Professors also joined the students in peaceful protest to prevent the destruction of the biodiversity park. Students opposed the 400-acre land's conversion into an IT park.
It remains to be seen when this issue will end and normal proceedings resume at the Hyderabad Central University.
