28 youths caught under Op 'Late Night Roam-Yos' get 2-day jail

Hyderabad: A local court on Tuesday sentenced 28 youths to jail for 2 days after they were caught under an operation by police to check drinking in public places.

These 28 youths were caught while they are boozing in the public places of Old City. Subsequently, three of them were booked under Nirbhaya Act for teasing minor girls, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) V Satyanarayana said.

The South Zone Police said it had launched the drive in May last week to prevent youngsters from engaging in activities that could see them graduate to committing crime.

In continuation of the operation, South Zone Police rounded up 119 youths since last two intervening nights and cases were booked under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC against 28 unruly youths and they were produced before a local court which awarded them imprisonment for two days, the senior police officer said.

'Operation Late Night Roam-Yos' (Roaming Youth) is a special drive launched by South Zone Police in May last week aimed at restraining youngsters and minors from roaming the streets late in the night and creating nuisance.

Police had earlier said the death of Nabil, a city-based youth, in a street fight in May occurred because of lack of parental supervision. The DCP had then said the South Zone police will not hesitate to lodge cases against parents if their minor children are apprehended committing serious crimes.
