10,000 cases registered against drunken drivers until October

The Hyderabad traffic police registered over 10,000 cases until October 5 this year as part of its drive against drunken driving in the city.

As many as 10,093 cases were booked against drunken drivers from January 1 to October 5, while a total of 870 people were convicted by courts and imprisoned for drunken driving, a release issued in Hyderabad on Thursday by the city police said.

Those caught in drunken driving cases were fined between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500 for each violation and also instructed to attend counselling classes. The traffic police had launched a drive against drunken driving in November 2011. Last year too, more than 10,000 cases were booked against drunken drivers.
